      About this Artwork

To carry out this project I’ve been inspired by: Mandalas & Surfing, which always seemed very interesting to me. The Mandalas are one of the many techniques of oriental relaxation, which are published in books similar to those of children’s colouring books, where the mandala comes drawn only with the lines and the rest in white arranged to colour. This technique of relaxation does not require any express discipline, as it can be in others, since whoever is doing so colours it according to their aesthetic and imaginative tastes. It can be done by people of any age, in addition to an activity that strengthens creativity. Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore. The term surfing refers to the act of riding a wave, regardless of whether the wave is ridden with a board or without a board, and regardless of the stance used. The modern-day definition of surfing, however, most often refers to a surfer riding a wave standing up on a surfboard; this is also referred to as stand-up surfing. Based on my Floral Circle illustration project, I wanted to create a Mandala representing the surf culture and background, the waves, the movement, the flows of the water and the surfers, the flowers, the surfboards… everything belonging to this world connected in a single illustration, to experiment the geometry of the shapes and the repetition of elements, creating an unique design which fits perfectly with this culture.
