About this Artwork
"Turtle Island (Zile Latòti in Haitian Creole) is an island in the Atlantic Ocean, located northwest of Hispaniola. Named for its Tortuga de Mar ("Sea Turtle") form by Christopher Columbus, this Caribbean island was a bastion for the buccaneers and buccaneers who roamed the Caribbean in the seventeenth century and was the first territory of colonized Santo Domingo by France."
