Monochrome pencils on paper. 35,5 × 43 cm (14’’ x 17"). “Wind Whales” is undoubtedly one of the favorite drawings that are part of my collection. Made in 2002 while I was visiting for a short season Boston, USA, this pencil illustration shows a couple of whales towing a flying galleon through the clouds of an imaginary planet. Wind Whales are one of the most intelligent and appreciated creatures of their enchanted land, because they support fleets of ships that fly over the sky, especially when they need to reach a new port faster. However, due to its great nobility, these celestial beings are never used in combat by the sailors of the air, and are released before any of the guns of the ships at war break their silence. Whales always fascinated me since I was very little, both their figure and majesty, and the images of these graceful animals soaring clouds and wind are very popular in the world of fantasy. For this reason, and as a way to pay tribute to these inspiring creatures, I also wanted to bring them alive on paper, in an attempt to capture their enigmatic silhouettes and eyes. Time will tell if I got it. All works are protected under copyright © law.
