      About this Artwork

      Castelnou est une commune française située dans le département des Pyrénées-Orientales, en France. Ce village a été classé le septième Village préféré des Français en 2015 parmi les 21 autres villages présents dans la compétition Le village de Castelnou se développa autour du château de Castelnou, mentionné dès la fin du Xe siècle. Ce castrum novum ou castellum novum (qui devint en catalan Castell Nou, le « château neuf ») est le siège du pouvoir des vicomtes de Castelnou. Le château est pris d'assaut par les troupes de Jacques II de Majorque en 1286, puis à nouveau en 1473 par celles du gouverneur du Roussillon.
