      About this Artwork

This dynamic oil painting captures the rousing energy of a group of Bedouins on horseback. They are competing in a so-called fantasia, a traditional race in the desert. The riders, dressed in bright white robes, stand out dramatically against the clear blue sky. The horses are depicted in various shades of brown, black and white, some wearing colourful saddles and bridles. Their elongated bodies and fluttering manes convey a strong sense of speed and movement. Light and shadow have been masterfully used to emphasise the contours of the riders and horses, giving them an almost tangible three-dimensionality. A fascinating work that captivates with its dynamism, colouring and masterful execution and transports the viewer to a distant, exotic world. The technique of oil on velvet is very rarely used, as it is very time-consuming and difficult.
