Very large snowflake, approximately 8 millimeters from tip to tip. This is real snow crystal of fernlike dendrite type. These snowflakes can be seen often, and usually they are bigger than snowflakes of other types. I have seen such crystals which are bigger than 1 centimeter in size! These snowflakes can be easily seen by naked eye in all their details, especially if you'll catch them on contrast dark backdrop like black mitten. These snowflakes remind stellar dendrite type, but have more complex and "random", or "chaotic", structure: they have more "side branches" and "leaves", and they grows with not too strict symmetry. Also, these crystals are fragile: their branches are big and heavy, but central hexagon, when all six arms are connected to each other, is quite small, compared to other snow crystal types. Often these snowflakes can be seen with lost arms, and it seems that they can broke in air, before they fall, when they grow big enough, or collide with neighbor crystals. If you ever seen one fernlike dendrite crystal, then you have seen them all: their "general design" is the same for every snowflake of this type, though they are all different in details. 8 shots averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio.
