About this Artwork
tepeluk is part of the female jewelry worn in the 19th century as part of the Serbian urban costume. By the mid-19th century under the tepeluk is meant small round, silver, often gilded tiles, filigree typical oriental decoration. This type tepeluk wearing instead of tassels on top of a shallow red fez, which was the usual women’s headgear during this period. Tepeluk could be made from a long string of silver or gold coin, which was drawn in the form of spirals on a separate circular piece of fabric which is then stitched on top of the fez, while the cheapest variant of top hats decorated with embroidery.
