Apex Predator is a bit of an abstract piece that explores the illegal poaching of Bengal Tigers in a different way. Within the futuristic interface (heavily inspired by those seen in the movie Minority Report), some “infographics” give out a few notable statistics about the species, including basic metrics, and an approximation of how many animals are left in the wild. A digitized tiger breaks through the glass. I meant for this to serve as a warning that if human beings aren’t careful to preserve the species, the animal will be poached to extinction, and its existence will only be preserved in artificial ways – in this case, a screen display. Artifacting, chromic aberration, and glitches are used throughout the whole piece as a further visual metaphor depicting the damage we are doing to the species.
