For Black History and Women's History Months I thought it would be interesting to do a mini collection on a self portrait that's really a play on all women and their struggle to find their place in this world. But doing so there is no way for me to separate it from my identity as a Black American immigrant from Jamaica whose origins are in Africa and finally think about that history of slavery we don't speak about enough even though it was only a couple generations ago.
