When I was around 12 years old and growing up in Plattsburgh I had a paper route on Brinkerhoff St. Even back then I could not help but notice the detailed workmanship of many of the victorian houses that graced lower Brinkerhoff Street. One such house was the residence at 59 Brinkerhoff Street. My latest Adobe Illustrator project uses the house as a model. Being a fractal, non-objective kind of a guy I wanted my work to be highly fractal and non_objective in essence at high magnifications. As the zoom level is reduced the work becomes “realistic” in the viewer’s eye. (Actually, as the magnification gets closer to 100% the non-objective becomes abstract.) I also feel that this work, any part of it, at any magnification becomes it’s own work of art. I have been consumed by this project for about 4 months and I still plan to use the vectors created in other projects. In some ways, after spending so much energy and time in this project I am happy to be done, however slightly melancholy that I am done! 59 Brinkerhoff St. — 1889, Frame, Eclectic late Victorian with extensive wood ornamentation. The Brinkerhoff Street Historic District is a one block residential district of 13 properties located between Oak Street and North Catherine Street, immediately west of Plattsburgh's commercial center. The Brinkerhoff Street Historic District generally consists of one and one-half/two-story brick or frame residences built between 1845 and 1890 and is characterized by a common scale and massing of buildings. All houses are located relatively near the street behind small front yards. The buildings exhibit a range of architectural details including bracketed cornices, decorative porches, molded lintels and two-story bay windows.
