This numbered edition Acrylic Glass Print, designed by Andreea Calarasu, comes with a numbered and signed certificate of authenticity. Printed on archival-quality photo paper mounted on the back of a 1/8" thick, clear acrylic substrate, this artwork comes ready to hang on a wire attached to a wooden frame fixed on the back.
Encountering vernacular photography revolves around the interpretation of an unknown reality. Its anonymity leads to a deconstruction and reconstruction in order for it to have some sort of spatial and temporal benchmarks. The chaos is carefully put together in a parallel universe, in which details become clues. Art turns itself into an act of honesty in its search to verbalize a dusty, forgotten story. Its truth can be distorted, simplified, torn apart and meticulously glued back together. The photographs in this series capture a process of permutation of what is believed to be a 20th century North America, through nameless characters and contexts. All the fragments are trimmed, clean-cut and amplified in a subjective manner, without any objective leads. The relationships and situations presented are brought into the spotlight through oversizing and cutouts. The only extrinsic element is the handwriting meant to underline the narrative, without making it obvious.
