About this Artwork
Jonah and the hungry whale
For all those who are familiar with the various events mentioned in the Christian bible will remember the incident about Jonah’s major encounter with the whale. But what interested me is his feelings before the whale swallowed him. When the frightened sailors in their frantic effort to save their lives threw Jonah overboard since they had the superstitious belief that the cause of their present prediction was the presence of a traitor among them. Jonah finds himself in a turbulent sea and one can see Jonah’s head above the waters with his eyes bulging out and you remember the adage that in those moments when a person finds himself in such a critical moment, he sees the vision of his past life and present life flash by as if that person were watching a film.
