About this Artwork
Born on September 12, 1980, in Shanghai, China, Yao Ming is a retired professional basketball player who played for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is arguably the greatest Chinese basketball player of all time, and his arrival in the NBA was a groundbreaking event for international relations between Chinese and American citizens. Though he was frequently hampered by injuries, Yao Ming's domination on the court was undeniable, and he was selected to eight All-Star teams during his nine-year NBA career. He retired in 2011 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
