This image combines a digital photograph of repeating vertical lines of ink on paper with a computer generated color field. The photograph was desaturated of color and filtered by compressing the levels to make it a stark monotone. The white regions were made transparent. On the layer under this "screen," I used the "plasma" noise filter in GIMP to render a color field. This produced a nebulous cloud of colors with hue variations within the "cells." On a layer above the "plasma," but below the cell layer, I manually painted over the plasma layer in GIMP, selecting one of the colors within each cell to take over the entire area.
