About this Artwork
The katana (in Japanese 日本 刀 nihontō, literally "") according to the SAR is a Japanese saber, although in the West this word is used generically to include all the Japanese sabers. Katana is the kunyomi (Japanese reading) of kanji 刀; the onyomi (Chinese reading) is "tō" (pronounced / to: /).
It refers to a particular type of single-edged, curved sword, traditionally used by samurai. Its most frequent size is about one meter in length and one kilogram of mass. The most widespread type of katana today is the one known as "Oda Nobunaga", in allusion to the creator daimyō of said model, with a curved blade and about one meter in total length.
