Sleeping by the camp fire made him feel safe, but not safe enough to ignore the sound of thick branches snapping in the distance. As the night went on, the boy grew more paranoid about the legends he had heard. The bear cat of the jungle had seemed like nothing more than a scary story, but it didn’t feel that way tonight. The sound of loud snaps shot through the air, this time only around 20 feet away. The boy picked up a burning branch and decided to keep watch.
