      About this Artwork

The well in the backyard of the ruins of the old chateau Similarly like many other earlier summer vacations this year too during my stay at the recreational home I was able to take that occasional foray into the neighbouring countryside to look at those few historical sites still open for sightseeing visits by the annual hordes of summer tourists who would roll up in their large buses. About five kilometres from the recreational home where I was staying and situated on a piece of land that overlooked the surrounding countryside there was this very old, fortified chateau dating back to the twelfth century or maybe older. There I was one day strolling through the ruins when I came across this old dried abandoned well which had been the only source of water supply for the defenders of the château in case of a siege by some marauding enemy and with probably no means to safely leave the property to fetch some water while at the same time escape from being pursued by the enemy forces surrounding them. The idea is represented by the conceptual and colourful drawing in a mixed media of paper collage and acrylic paints on heavy art paper.
