    About this Artwork

    Zmaj Jovina ulica je glavna ulica u pešačkoj zoni Novog Sada. Prostire se od Trga slobode (ukrštanje ulica kralja Aleksandra, Njegoševa i Modene) do Vladičanskog dvora (ukrštanje Pašićeve, Gimnazijske i Dunavske ulica). Sa ostatkom centra grada je povezana ulicama Laze Telečkog i Svetozara Miletića, ali i mnogobrojnim pasažima u kojima se nalaze prodavnice i kancelarije nekih udruženja i preduzeća. - Istorijat: Nekada se Zmaj Jovina ulica zvala Glavna ulica, u vreme Austrije zvala se nemački Hauptgasse, a posle Austro-ugarske nagodbe 1867. mađarski Fö utca, kasnije ulica Lajoša Košuta. Između dva svetska rata zvala je nosila ime kralja Petra I. Tada je Jovan Jovanović Zmaj imao ulicu Zlatne grede, u kojoj se nalazila njegova rodna kuća. Za vreme okupacije nazvana je po mađarskom savezniku Musoliniju. Posle oslobođenja, zakratko je ponovo bila Kralja Petra I, zatim Maršala Tita, i konačno Zmaj Jovina. U ovoj ulici oduvek su se nalazile trgovine i dućani, a njenom dužinom, od Trga Slobode do Vladičanskog dvora pružala se pijaca. I danas se u njoj nalaze mnoge trgovačke radnje. Najstarija zgrada je na broju 28 - „Kod belog lava“ (potiče iz XVIII veka, 1720. godine). Smatra se da je ovo jedna od prvih kuća građenih na sprat u Novom Sadu i predstavlja tipičnu kuću imućnog zanatlije prve polovine XVIII veka.
