    About this Artwork

The early bird gets the worm It was during my daily early morning walk under the trees on the banks of the river near my home. The sun had yet to come up so that the only visibility was the soft light filtering through the branches, and it was just then that I saw the little bird pecking at something on the ground. A scenario that brought back those nostalgic memories of my early days in primary school and of the time when we were beginning to learn how to read and write. There was a silence all around the classroom and the children had a rapt look on their faces as the teacher closed the book with the words “and so the moral of the story is that it’s the early bird that gets the juicy worm which means that if you want to succeed in life, you cannot be lazy and put off doing your important tasks for a later period,” inspired by these souvenirs so that on my return instead of stopping for breakfast impulsively I went straight to my drawing table and taking out a sheet of heavy Hahnemuehle art paper I began the conception of a mixed media collage with acrylic paints to give that misty freshness of the early morning spell and the torn pieces of colourful paper pasted in an abstract form to symbolise the floating reminisces of those early carefree days.
