Urban Paradoxes

Urban Paradoxes

Daphne is a photographer living in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. She studied at the Photo Academy Groningen where she began experimenting with different camera techniques. Eventually Daphne developed an abstract style by making use of camera movement and by merging images in post-processing. Her technique results in dream and paint-like images in which only colors, lines and shapes remain. Daphne is inspired by urban environments, especially the contrast between the busy city life and the silence of abandoned places. Although details are blurred, the urban and infrastructural scenes, like bridges, harbors, crossroads and industrial areas, are still recognizable. Daphne says that with each setting, she creates new images that reflect her thoughts and her state of being. Sometimes she has an idea in mind before going out to photograph, but most of the time she likes to wander, capturing the inspiration and the surprises from each place she visits.
